Contact Chip Card
Contact chip cards work on a contact area of approx. 1 sq cm consisting of several gold plated contact pads which when inserted into a card reader provides electrical connectivity. The communication is enabled between a smart chip and the host which can be a computer or a mobile phone. They work on the power supplied by the reader. The physical characteristics, electrical connecter position and shape, electrical characteristics and functionality are provided by a certain set of standards defined by ISO/IEC 7810 and ISO/IEC 7816.
